Research Project: Molecular and Environmental Factors Controlling Aflatoxin Reduction by Non-toxigenic Aspergillus Strains

Location: Pest Management and Biocontrol Research

Project Number: 2020-42000-023-016-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 15, 2018
End Date: Apr 14, 2023

Objective:
Continued development of aflatoxin management with atoxigenic strains of Aspergillus (A.) flavus in support of efforts by the Pistachio, Cotton, and Corn industries to reduce aflatoxin contamination problems. To include efforts on strain utilization, product development, manufacturing methods, and development of improved agronomic.

Approach:
In consultation with the three collaborating industries, laboratory, field and desk studies will be performed to improve manufacture and use of atoxigenic strains to reduce aflatoxin contmination in cotton, pistachios, and corn. Efforts will also be made to assist with problems minimizing the use and/or efficiacy of atoxigenic strains including registration, agronomic practices, and development of improved products.
