Pollen Trap Component Descriptions, Files, and Pictures

 

Trap Body (TP) –Attach by inserting the two tubes into the entrance holes with the sieve pointed downward. Contains extended ridges for the Catch Basin to attach, a vertical slit to allow the pollen filter and trap body to slide through, and a slotted sieve bottom that inhibits forager’s access to collected pollen in the Catch Basin.

Pollen Filter (PF) – Engage by sliding the pollen filter through the vertical slit of the Trap Body with the raised edge facing away from the nest box. Scrapes coribicular pollen loads from the corbiculae of returning bumble bee foragers.

Trap Closure Insert (TCI) – Inserted into the Trap Body in the same manner as the Pollen Filter. Stops foraging activity both in and out of the nest box.

Catch Basin (CB) – Attach by sliding the inner groove along the extended ridges towards to nest box on the bottom region of the Trap Body. Allows observers to retrieve collected pollen with minimal disruption to the nest environment and secures the pollen filter into position.
