Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The identification of variables in the early stages of treatment that are related to successful weight loss provides practitioners with important information. These factors may be assessed to determine the likelihood of future success. Weight loss at the beginning of treatment, depressive symptomatology, and social support - each of these has been shown to be predictive of long-term outcomes for weight loss efforts.
