Technical Abstract: This presentation provided information about the history of ovine progressive pneumonia, its adverse effects on production of sheep and the recent discovery of a gene (TMEM154) affecting susceptibility to the disease. The frequencies and relative effects of eight TMEM154 haplotypes that encode specific sequences of amino acids were given to address potential impact on sheep production. Evidence to support the recessive nature of the most-common and least-susceptible haplotype was presented. Access to commercial genetic testing for TMEM154 haplotypes and additional sources of information about the disease were discussed.
