Interpretive Summary: Globally, aquaculture has been growing at a rapid pace (currently 8.5% per year) over the past two decades, and is recognized as the fastest growing food production sector of agriculture in the U.S. Growth of aquaculture and other industries (e.g., other monogastric and ruminant livestock feed applications) has placed an increased demand on desirable marine fish meal resources. The reliability of fish meal supplies and increasing costs of meal has encouraged researchers and feed manufacturers to seek lower cost, nutritive fish meal replacements. There is growing interest in using DDGS in aquafeeds. The availability of DDGS has spurred research to determine its use in other monogastric animal feeds, such as aquafeeds for commercial finfish production. The commercially cultured finfish species for which most DDGS feeding trials have been conducted include tilapia, channel catfish, and rainbow trout. Similarly, these species comprise the bulk of food finfish production in the U.S. This chapter discusses relevant species characteristics and provides an overview of nutrient requirements and deficiency diseases as they relate to these important commercial aquaculture species. We summarize the results of feeding trials conducted with aquafeeds formulated with fuel-based DDGS and discuss feed processing aspects associated with DDGS.
