Interpretive Summary: The two rust diseases can affect beet, beet rust (Uromyces betae) and seedling rust (Puccinia subnitens). Beet rust can affect all beet types and has been reported in most beet growing areas. Seedling rust has been reported primarily on sugar beet in only a few areas. Symptoms, epidemiology, and management of the diseases are discussed in the chapter.

Technical Abstract: Beet rust, caused by Uromyces betae, can cause pustules on most beet types, and can be a problem in various beet growing areas. Seedling rust, caused by Puccinia subnitens can cause lesions on young beets, primarily on cotyledons, and does not cause economic damage. This chapter describes the diseases, the pathogens, and discusses management for beet rust.
