Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This chapter provides indepth morphological, physiological and molecular evolutionary descriptions of the 21 species assigned to the yeast genus Lindnera. Most of the species are associated with rotting fruit, tree wounds, especially thoses caused by insects, and soil. The economically most important species is L. jadinii, whose asexual state is known as Candida utilis. This species has been used for 6-8 decades to produce single-cell protein from paper-making wastes.
