By using experimental matings between channel catfish females and hybrid male catfish (channel catfish female X blue catfish male) we demonstrate that isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH-m) is located on the same chromosome as the testis determining gene. Further, mannose phosphate isomerase and glucosephosphate isomerase-A are located are linked to each other and are not located on the sex determining chromosome. Evolutionary relationships of these gene arrangements are compared among teleost species. Technical Abstract: We observed sex-linkage of isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH-m), and genetic linkage of mannose phosphate isomerase (MPI) and glucosephosphate isomerase-A (GPI-A), in two experimental matings between channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus females and hybrid males (channel catfish female ? blue catfish I. furcatus male) with recombination rates of 12.7% and 5.5%, respectively. Evolutionary relationships of these gene arrangements were compared among teleost species. |
