Vernon for resistance to Phytophthora infestans (US11). Thirty clones each were replicated in three randomized complete blocks. Data were collected to estimate area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC), days to 5% disease threshold (DT), and sporangia production (SP). There were significant differences within each population for all three parameters. Regression analysis indicated that the DT was highly correlated (P=.0001) with AUDPC for all populations. In contrast SP was highly correlated (P=.0001) with AUDPC in two populations, correlated (P=.01) in one, but not the other population. This confirms previous reports that the contribution of individual components of partial resistance to late blight may be different in distinct Solanum populations, and that modulation of DT and SP function separately in these new populations. |
