Title: REPRODUCIBILITY OF EFFICACY TESTS FOR MAREK'S DISEASE VACCINES

Technical Abstract: The effects of strain, maternal antibody (ab) status and major histocompatibility complex (MHC) type of the host chicken, and the strain and preparation of vaccine virus were evaluated on the relative protective efficacy of two different serotype 1 Marek's disease (MD) vaccine viruses. Some influence of host ab and MHC status on the relative efficacy of test vaccines was observed. Although the efficacy of two preparations of one MD vaccine were comparable, significant differences were found between two preparations of a second vaccine virus. These data identify important test variables and suggest a need for standardization of virus stocks and assay techniques.
