Technical Abstract: A 39 kDa protein antigen purified from Pasteurella multocida grown in turkeys and a laboratory medium has been shown to induce cross- protection immunity. Although studies have shown this antigen to be involved in immune cross-protection, other antigens may be involved as well. Identification of the 39 kDa protein as a cross-protection antigen and developing reagents for its recognition can provide the means for optimal production in laboratory-grown bacteria. This in turn may lead to improved bacterins and subunit vaccines, as well as reagents to determine the immunological status of vaccinated poultry flocks.
