Saccharomyces cerevisiae engineered to convert pretreated Lignocellulosic sugars anaerobically to ethanol [abstract]. Cambridge Healthtech Institute, Second Generation Biofuels Development Summit, Seminar 6. p. 1.

Technical Abstract: Advanced high-throughput screening has resulted in the discovery of several yeast strains that can utilize hexose as well as pentose sugars fully anaerobically. This is the first report of strains that are capable of utilizing pentose and hexose sugars from pretreated lignocellulosic feedstocks fully anaerobically for the production of cellulosic ethanol. These new strains and their potential for lignocellulosic ethanol biorefinery production will be discussed.
