Technical Abstract: Progress in wheat and durum genetics and pathology research conducted at the USDA-ARS Cereal Crops Unit is reported. A summary of the various projects reported on is as follows: 1) A novel Fusarium head blight resistance QTL derived from wild emmer wheat was identified; 2) Multiple host-selective toxins produced by the Stagonospora nodorum blotch pathogen have been identified, and the corresponding host genes conferring sensitivity to the toxins have been mapped. The map-based cloning of two host genes, Tsn1 and Snn1, is ongoing; 3) Homeoalleles of the domestication gene Q were cloned and characterized; 4) The genes Ne1 and Ne2 responsible for hybrid necrosis were genetically characterized and mapped using molecular markers; 5) The Langdon D-genome chromosome substitution lines were characterized with molecular markers; 6) The chromosome locations of stem rust resistance genes in monogenic lines were determined, and 7) The genetic diversity and linkage disequilibrium among U.S. wheat germplasms of different market classes was determined.
