Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers. www.hawaiitropicalfruitgrowers.org Technical Abstract: The Pacific Basin Agricultural Research Center (PBARC), Tropical Plant Genetic Resource Management Unit (TPGRMU), consisting of a scientific team to manage 14 designated tropical fruit and nut crops, is governed by a mission to collect, maintain, evaluate and distribute available germplasm for research. PBARC works closely with University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) on research topics important to Hawaii. Lychee management studies led to the testing of “Kaimana” lychee for synchronization of vegetative growth and flower induction in Hawaii. Pruning and foliar fertilizer treatments of 24 trees at Hilo, aged eight to nine years, produced an average yield of 100 lbs of fruits per tree for two consecutive seasons in 2005 and 2006. Additional trees are included in Kona and Hamakua to compare the treatment effects in 2006-2007.
