Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The clean plant program at the USDA-ARS in Corvallis, Oregon was initiated in 1967 in cooperation with the Oregon and Washington State Departments of Agriculture and berry growers in the region. The program officially became part of the National Clean Plant Network (NCPN) in 2009 with the establishment of the NCPN for Berries and has received NCPN funding since 2010. The NCPN in Corvallis works closely with a number of public breeding programs, testing for viruses and phytoplasmas, and carrying out therapy to eliminate viruses from advanced selections, so that are plants free of targeted pathogens at the time of a cultivar release. In addition the NCPN in Corvallis works closely with the program at the University of Arkansas in developing diagnostic assays for viruses of berry crops. The NCPN in Corvallis has been involved in developing certification standards for the berry crops, which will also be discussed.
