Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The invention relates to nucleic acid sequences encoding a bovine tumor necrosis factor receptor-1 (TNF-R1). Also within the invention is a soluble bovine TNF-R1, which is a potent inhibitor of bovine tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha). The invention demonstrates that soluble bovine TNF-R1 has therapeutic value as an inhibitor of TNF in cattle suffering from coliform mastitis or other inflammatory disease. This invention focuses on nucleic acid sequences (or closely related sequences) expressed in host cells or vectors or both that enable delivery of the TNF-R1 capable of inhibiting TNF-alpha.
