Research Project: Physiological Approaches to Develop Stress Tolerant Soybean Varieties for Missouri (Usb Project 1420-532-5613)

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6645-21220-068-36
Project Type: General Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 01, 2014
End Date: Nov 30, 2014

Objective:
To develop high yielding drought and heat tolerant cultivars adapted to Missouri and other drought-prone U.S. environments.

Approach:
A broad range of soybean germplasm will be screened for rooting dept, root length density, water use efficiency, and response to high temperatures. Complementing greenhouse and field experiments will be conducted to examine these traits. Field experiments will be employed to evaluate the drought tolerance of genotypes deemed promising as a consequence of the large-scale screening.
