Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF IMPROVED SOYBEAN CULTIVARS AND GERMPLASM FOR OHIO

Location: Corn, Soybean and Wheat Quality Research Unit

2012 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Mapping novel genes for SCN resistance and breeding for soybean cultivar with SCN resistance in maturity group II-IV.

1b.Approach (from AD-416):
The objective will be achieved by mapping QTL for SCN resistance in a mapping population developed by USDA-ARS scientist in Tennessee by genotyping with SNP markers. He will conduct the phenotyping on it. The SCN resistant breeding lines will be developed by crossing SCN resistant soybean lines from other states to the SCN resistant cultivars from Ohio and selecting for the resistant progeny.

3.Progress Report:

Two soybean regions with novel quantitative trait loci for soybean cyst nematode (SCN) resistance were identified and several breeding lines with SCN resistance have been developed. The seeds of selected F4-derived lines are being increased for yield trials in 2013. This project relates to and expands on objective 1 (Identify novel QTL for soybean cyst nematode (SCN) resistance) of the parent project.
