Research Project: EXPLORATION AND EXCHANGE OF ECONOMIC PLANTS IN THE REPUBLIC OF GEORGIA

Location: National Germplasm Resources

2011 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
Acquire for the USDA/ARS managed U.S. National Plant Germplasm System, well documented germplasm of crops native to the Republic of Georgia through plant explorations and exchanges. Make available to the National Plant Germplasm System in Georgia well documented samples of the collected germplasm.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
1. Jointly develop and execute one or more plant explorations to the Republic of Georgia through plant explorations and exchanges using crop experts from Georgia and when appropriate U.S. Scientists.

2. Share the collected germplasm and documentation with the plant genetic resources program in the Republic of Georgia and deposit the U.S. share of the germplasm and documentation in the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS).

3.Progress Report

During FY 2011, documented collections from native populations of Camelina species (an oilseed and forage crop) were made by the collaborator and directly support the goal of the parent project to acquire such genetic resources. All collected germplasm and the associated documentation are shared between the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System and the National Plant Germplasm System of the Republic of Georgia. This project is being monitored by e-mail correspondence and plant collection reports.
