Miami Beach Hebrew Academy: February 25, 2019

Scientific technician Scott Goldstein presented to 2 classes of first grade students at Hebrew Academy in Miami Beach. They were currently learning about plant life cycle. His presentation focused on comparison involving native and invasive plants. He introduced them to one of the invasive plants that the IPRL is currently doing research to help reduce their population in nature. Multiple stations were set up for the children to learn hands on. The first station was a seed planting station where wheat seeds were planted to see them sprout. The second station was an information about insects. He talked about pollinators and children observed pinned specimens. The final station included displaying the Air Potato plant and bulbils, with an explanation of how the plant damages our environment and the work the IPRL does controlling the plant. The students as well as teachers were very appreciative of Scott's time, and also bringing the wheat seeds for planting, to watch grow. This was a great opportunity to reach out to the community and especially a young audience.
