Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: We report on efforts to develop a FOSS solution for a particular geoscience application. Eddy covariance (EC) instruments are routinely used to measure field-scale evapotranspiration and CO2 fluxes. For many applications, it is desirable to partition the measured evapotranspiration flux into its constitutive evaporation and transpiration components, and the measured CO2 flux into its photosynthesis and respiration components. Recently, Scanlon and others have proposed a procedure for obtaining the desired partitioning based on a processing of high frequency EC data and an analysis of correlations between atmospheric CO2 and water vapor concentrations. The proposed computational procedure is relatively complex, and a FOSS application for performing the analysis will permit greater adoption and testing of the procedure, and also facilitate reproducible research and open science goals. The developed software solution uses Python 3.5, NumPy , SciPy, PyWavlets, and Conda. Example computations of flux partitioning will be presented.
