Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Infrared thermometry has shown potential to quantify water stress in crop canopy. This presentation will outline the limited irrigation experiments by the USDA-ARS in northern Colorado, which is used for a framework to evaluate canopy temperature. Recent methods have been introduced that may be accurate alternatives to the Crop Water Stress Index, and may be used as surrogates for crop water stress coefficients for evapotranspiration. Additional greenhouse experiments have evaluated environmental influences on canopy temperature.
