Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Pythium species are very common soilborne pathogens that infect the seeds and roots of many greenhouse crops. Pythium All Pythium species are strongly favored by abundant moisture and can be especially problematic in poorly drained soils or potting media. Pythium usually attacks seeds or seedlings in the greenhouse. However, cuttings and older plants may also be affected, especially if the potting media is too wet. Disease control is best achieved by a combination of cultural and chemical control methods and by proper sanitation.
