Technical Abstract: Bait stations are being developed and tested as alternatives to broadcast pesticide application for control of a number of pest insects. This is an attract-and-kill pest management approach. With the development of female-targeted food-based synthetic attractants for tephritid fruit flies, a number of bait stations have been developed and tested for fruit fly population suppression. We conducted small-scale field tests in guava, a preferred host for the Caribbean fruit fly, Anastrepha suspensa, to evaluate several types of bait stations. Results of these studies will be presented as well as a review of tephritid fruit fly bait stations that are being tested and used for fruit fly control.
