Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Leafminers can be serious indirect pests of apple feeding on leaf tissue. When abundance is high, they can reduce yield, cause premature fruit drop and disturbing fruit pickers. Normally, they are controlled by parasitic wasps, but this control can be precluded by application of some types of pesticides for other pest insects. There are four major species of leafminers: spotted tentiform leafminer, apple blotch leafminer, western tentiform leafminer and apple leafminer. Chemical control of leafminers can be done with applications of insecticides with translaminar activity, such as imidicloprids.
