Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The objectives were to review the scientific evidence on scientific evidence on safety and efficacy of iron administration to prevent and control iron deficiency at population levels; to provide guidance on the most feasible, effective, and safe progammatic ways to administer additional iron; and to develop a strategy and hence a statement on the prevention and control of iron deficiency. The discussion and the conclusions focused on young children living in areas with a high prevalence of malaria.
