Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Deleterious rhizobacteria (DRB), previously isolated from U.S. soils and shown to suppress growth of various weeds that infest U.S. cropping systems, were tested against several important weeds and crop plants from Western Australia. Some DRB strains from the U.S. successfully reduced growth of weed species of Western Australian cropping systems. However, these DRB also reduced the growth of Australian canola varieties. Based on our results, we recommend that DRB strains examined in this study should not be used in Western Australia for weed management and that DRB should be isolated for weeds and conditions characteristic of Western Australia.
