Interpretive Summary: Cryopreservation techniques developed over the last 25 years are now advanced to the stage where they can be inplemented for useful storage of germplasm. However, few labs are actually putting the techniques to large-scale use. Initial impementation of procedures can be daunting for already facilities that are already low on financial and human resources. This chapter is designed to aide laboratories in implementing cryopreservation as a base storage form for important collections, with the hope that long-term storage will become a standard procedure at germplasm laboratories throughout the world.
