Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Strategies for the discovery of allelochemicals from plants, for determination of the mode of action of these compounds, and for manipulation of production of these compounds in crops are presented. The advantages of modern bioassay-guided discovery strategies are provided. A holistic approach to the determination of molecular target sites of allelochemicals is discussed. Finally, strategies for enhancement of allelochemical production in crops via transgene technology is detailed.
