It has become a pandemic disease and a major economic problem for swine producers worldwide. This report describes ongoing research conducted by the Virology Swine Research Unit at the NADC which is applicable to veterinarians in the field. The use of diagnostic techniques and the correct procedures for collecting diagnostic samples are discussed along with the current methods to distinguish PRRS virus isolates. Current studies evaluating the PRRS virus immune response and the efficacy of PRRS virus vaccines are reviewed. |
