Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Scientific Advisory Subcommittee (SAS) was appointed by the chairman of the Tuberculosis Committee of the United States Animal Health Association. The Subcommittee was asked to review data and other information and make recommendations on several issues to the members of the Tuberculosis Committee. The SAS recommended accepting the "Criteria for evaluating experimental tuberculosis test performance for official test status," whic was distributed to committee members for their review. The SAS reviewed data compiled by USDA/APHIS on comparative cervical skin tests conducted on captive deer and elk in the United States to determine if there was a need to change criteria for interpretation of test results. The SAS recommended that no changes be made at this time. Results of the blood tuberculosis test (BTB) conducted in the United States also were reviewed to determine if the test is being used appropriately for the diagnosis of tuberculosis in captive deer and elk. The SAS made no recommendations to the committee because data were too limited to fully evaluate the BTB test.
