Interpretive Summary: 33I The Uniform Winter Barley Yield Nursery (UWBYN) is a cooperative effort of the USDA-ARS and various state Agricultural Experiment Stations to allow plant breeders to evaluate promising experimental cultivars for their agronomic performance in a wide variety of growing conditions. The choice of experimental design used to grow the nursery was made by the cooperator for each location and average performance values were submitted for inclusion in this report. Data reported from the various locations included yield, test weight, plant height, lodging, heading date, ripe date, winterkill, and reactions to several disease. The Uniform Winter Barley Yield Nursery was grown at 13 stations in 11 states. Of the 22 total entries, 11 were new entries in this year's nursery. The average yield over lines and stations was 90.6 bu/A with line averages ranging from 75.34 to 102.22 bu/A. VA 92-44-279 was the top yielding experimental line, with nine other lines (including Wysor) yielding at levels not statistically different from this line, when averaged over all locations. The highest yielding location was University Park, Pennsylvania where the average of all entries was 133.89 bu/A. The best entry for test weight, when averaged over all locations, was SC890585 at 59.31 lb/bu; one other line (SC860974) had an average test weight that was not statistically different from this line.

Technical Abstract: The Uniform Winter Barley Yield Nursery was grown at 13 stations in 11 states. Of the 22 total entries, 11 were new entries in this year's nursery. Other information on the varieties is given in Table 1. The choice of experimental design used to grow the test was made by the cooperator at each location and mean performance values were submitted for inclusion in this report. The average yield over lines and stations was 90.6 bu/A with line averages ranging from 75.34 to 102.22 bu/A. VA_92-44-279 was the top yielding experimental line, with nine other lines (including Wysor) yielding at levels not statistically different from this line, when averaged over all locations. The highest yielding location was University Park, Pennsylvania where the average of all entries was 133.89 bu/A. The best entry for test weight, when averaged over all locations, was SC890585 at 59.31 lb/bu; one other line (SC860974) had an average test weight that was not statistically different from this line.
