Interpretive Summary: Citrus Huanglongbing (HLB, yellow shoot disease, also known as citrus greening disease) is a highly destructive disease in citrus production. HLB is associated with the infection of a bacterium called “Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus”. The HLB bacterium lives in both citrus plant and a psyllid insect. Psyllids transmit HLB bacteria from tree to tree. This study sequenced the whole genome of the HLB bacterium from a single psyllid. The information will help to understand how HLB bacteria live in the psyllid host and facilitate development of effective HLB management strategies.

Technical Abstract: The draft genome sequence of “Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus” strain YCPsy from an Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) in Guangdong of China is reported. The YCPsy strain has a genome size of 1,233,647 bp, 36.5% G+C content, 1,171 open reading frames (ORFs), and 53 RNAs.
