Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A planter test stand was developed to evaluate individual row-crop metering units in early 2013. This test stand provided the ability to quantify actual seed metering in terms of population, seed spacing, skips, and multiples over a range of meter RPMs and vacuum pressures. Preliminary data has been collected from different meters to establish proper vacuum levels to maintain performance. Field tests were also conducted to compare and contrast test stand and in-field performance of meters. On-farm live population and spacing data were collected. Results indicated seed spacing standard deviations ranged between 1.6 and 3.8 inches. Further, the test stand has been used during field days and Extension activities to highlight proper setups and possible issues which may impact planter performance.
