Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: In this study, a stable, non-leaching Ag-cotton nanocomposite fiber has been characterized. Siver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were previously synthesized in the alkali-swollen substructure of cotton fiber; the nano-sized micofibrillar channels allowed diffusion-controlled conditions to produce mono-dispersed Ag NPs at room temperature. The incorporation of Ag NPs did not significantly change the crystalline structure of the cotton fiber. The tensile strength of the nanocomposite measured using a Favimat tester was evaluated by the two-parameter Weibull statistics, and the parameters were obtained using maximum likelihood estimation. The experimental results and prediction based on the Weibull distribution showed a good fit, and the Weibull modulus and tenacity of the fiber were increased after the synthesis of Ag NPs.
