Interpretive Summary: This paper provides an outline of the past and current research on ornamental cultivar releases at The National Germplasm Repository (NPGR) in Miami, FL. During the past six years several cultivars of ornamental plants have been released at the NPGR in Miami: Cultivars of Cape milkwort (Polygala mirtifolia ‘Chapman Field’), White African iris(Dietes iridioides ‘Amatola’), improved coconut (Cocos nucifera ‘Niu Leka’, also known as Fiji Dwarf’), and Iochroma (Iochroma cyaneum ‘Indigo’, ‘Royal Blue’, ‘Sky King’, and I. ‘Wine Red’. For each cultivar released and current research with ornamental germplasm, a brief summary of the cultivar development is provided, including records of key references to the literature. Technical Abstract: We provide an overview of the past and current ornamental cultivar development at the National Germplasm Repository (NPGR) in Miami, FL. During the past six years several cultivars of ornamental plants have been released: Polygala ymirtifolia ‘Chapman Field’, D. iridioides ‘Amatola’, improved germplasm of Cocos nucifera ‘Niu Leka’ (Fiji Dwarf’), Iochroma cyaneum ‘Indigo’, ‘Royal Blue’, ‘Sky King’, and I. ‘Wine Red’). For each cultivar released and ongoing research with ornamental germplasm, a brief summary of the development cultivars is given, including citations of key references to the literature.
