Citation: Hummer, K.E. 2007. Second International Symposium on Plant Genetic Resources of Horticultural Crops - Volume I. Acta Horticulturae. Leuven, Belgium. ISHS. 368 p.

Interpretive Summary: The Second International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) Symposium on Plant Genetic Resources was sponsored by the Commission on Plant Genetic Resources (PGR), Plant Genebank Management Working Group, and co-sponsored by broad coverage of additional ISHS Sections of Fruits, Vegetables, Ornamentals, and Nuts Working Groups. This book is includes presentations given at the Symposium 1 of the International Horticultural Congress in Seoul Korea which occurred from 14 to 19 August 2006. This symposium included specific sections on regulatory and genebank management issues, molecular markers, in vitro culture and cryogenics, vegetable, fruit, nut, and ornamental genetic resources. The nine invited speakers included scientists from the Bioversity International, Global Crop Diversity Trust, international quarantine regulatory authorities, as well as international genetic resource managers. As a result of this symposium, ISHS Commission PGR working groups on “Ornamental Crop Genetic Resources” and “Underutilized Crop Genetic Resources” are forming. The Symposium on Plant Genetic Resources had more than 200 oral and poster presentations. Scientists from 38 countries submitted abstracts for the symposium, and 50 manuscripts are presented in Volume 1of this Acta Horticulturae. These manuscripts include four topics: Regulatory and Genebank Management Issues, Molecular Markers, In Vitro Culture and Cryogenics, and Vegetable Genetic Resources.
