Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Irrigation is a very important aspect of plant production since nitrate runoff and leaching are related to irrigation practices and methods. The goal of this research is to evaluate the impact of the Irristat irrigation system in potentially reducing nitrate losses from container nursery plants into streams and groundwater. Greenhouse and nursery crops are considered among the highest water using plants grown commercially. This research will be focused on improving water-use efficiency and minimizing environmental impacts using different irrigation systems. The results from this study hopefully would allow us to evaluate the Irristat irrigation system and define best irrigation management strategies that would optimize plant growth and reduce nitrate losses from container nursery plants.
