Interpretive Summary: In 2004, we published an analysis of the genetic diversity of commercial and USDA National Plant Germplasm System garlic accessions. These analyses provided information on genetically very similar (statistically identical) garlic accessions that are commercially grown in the U.S. This “Garlic Press” article presents information that was not included in an article we published in the “Garlic Press” in 2004. Lists of commercially available garlic varieties that are identical as well as some descriptions of the different types of garlic are provided.

Technical Abstract: In 2004, we published an analysis of the genetic diversity of commercial and USDA National Plant Germplasm System garlic accessions in the Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science. These analyses provided information on genetically very similar (statistically identical) garlic accessions that are commercially grown in the U.S. In this “Garlic Press” article, I summarize some of the information from the journal publication. Lists of commercially available garlic varieties that are identical as well as some descriptions of the different types of garlic are provided.
