Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Three types of epoxies were recently prepared in two steps from sucrose 1. These were epoxy allyl sucroses with an average of 3.2 epoxy groups per sucrose; epoxy crotyl sucroses with an average of about 7.3 epoxy groups per sucrose; and epoxy methallyl sucroses with an average of 5.6 epoxy groups per sucrose. In this presentation we will discuss their curing behavior (by differential scanning calorimetry, DSC) with amines, anhydrides, and amino acids, and explain the performances of the resulting materials by dynamical mechanical analyses (DMA). Furthermore, the paper will discuss future applications of these new bio-based products.
