Technical Abstract: Bt toxicity was significantly enhanced by incorporation of sublethal dose of avidin or proteinase inhibitor into Bt diet. Treatment of diet with 10 ng/ml Bt and 10 ppm avidin increased larval mortality by 50%, and treatment of diet with 20 ng/ml Bt and 10 ppm avidin increased larval mortality by 57%. Synergistic effect of Bt and proteinase inhibitors caused significant decreases in larval body weight and length over time. General, tryptic, and chymotrypsin-like proteinase activities were significantly suppressed by Bt+inhibitor treatments.
