Interpretive Summary: Rust fungi cause diseases on plants throughout the world and threaten U.S. agriculture. Although well-known in the U.S, rust fungi from Africa remain relatively undiscovered. In order to know more about their worldwide distribution, specimens of rust fungi on ornamental plants were received from Nigeria for identification. These specimens included a species that is new to science. In this paper the new rust fungus is named, described and illustrated. Three other rust species have not been reported previously from Nigeria. This research will be used by plant pathologists to identify these rust fungi and by plant quarantine officials to prevent the entry of these rust fungi into the U.S.

Technical Abstract: Four species of rust fungi from Nigeria are described. Hemileia ebohiana on Tacazzea apiculata is described as a new species and compared with other rust species on Apocynaceae. Coleosporium plumeriae, Dietelia codiaei and Puccinia mogiphanis are reported for the first time from Nigeria.
