Interpretive Summary: Flat-footed flies feed on a variety of fungal hosts as larvae, including various mushrooms, although none are considered important agricultural pests. This research reports a number of new localities for one species of flat-footed fly, including the first records of the species and family from Caribbean islands. This information is of interest to those identifying flies at ports of entry as knowledge of distributions often aid in species identifications.

Technical Abstract: Bertamyia notata (Loew) (Diptera: Platypezidae) is reported from a number of new localities in the Caribbean and South America. This constitutes the first report of the family Platypezidae from Caribbean islands.
