The whitefly web page, http://www.sel.bac.usda.gov/whitefly/wfframe.htm. Systematic Entomology Laboratory World Wide Web Site. Interpretive Summary: The Aleyrodidae or whiteflies are an economically important group of plant- feeding insects. Whiteflies can damage their host plants by feeding on the sap or transmitting plant-viral diseases. Before any research or control program can be started, it is critical that proper identification is made and distribution of a pest be noted. This web site provides background information on the whiteflies, allows the viewer to search the national collection of Aleyrodidae through a series of queries, and provides links to various related sites. This site is of benefit to whitefly workers around the world as well as those in the United States. Technical Abstract: The Systematic Entomology Laboratory's Whitefly Web Page provides general background information on whiteflies, allows one to query the holdings of the United States National Collection of Aleyrodidae, and provides links to related sites of interest. |
