Interpretive Summary: Several projects around the world have produced genetic maps of the bovine using both genetic markers common to several laboratories and markers unique from each laboratory. This paper is the report on the first workshop on the genetic map of bovine chromosome 27. Eight laboratories contributed information from 44 genetic markers. Eighteen were used in at least two independent laboratories and were used to construct a consensus map. The remaining markers were subsequently incorporated to produce a comprehensive map of bovine chromosome 27. This map will enable the refinement of quantitative trait loci of economically important traits in cattle.

Technical Abstract: The results of genotypic data contributed for the bovine chromosome 27 workshop is presented. Eight laboratories contributed 23261 informative meioses from 44 loci. Eighteen loci were typed by at least two laboratories and were used to construct a consensus linkage map. Twenty-one loci were subsequently incorporated in a comprehensive map. The sex-averaged consensus map covered 66.9 cM. The female map was 73.1 cM and the male map was 63.7 cM. The sex-averaged comprehensive map was 75.5 cM, while the female and male maps were 73.1 cM and 63.7 cM, respectively. Five loci were excluded from the analysis because of ambiguous position in the linkage group and low LOD score (less than 2.0). Average distance between loci in the comprehensive map was 1.98 cM.
