Interpretive Summary: Volatile Organic Content (VOC) of news inks was evaluated by using different methods. United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) 100% vegetable oil based news ink, commercial 40% vegetable oil based news inks and petroleum based news inks were tested. USDA's ink showed the best results followed by commercial vegetable oil based news inks.

Technical Abstract: Volatile Organic Compound Content (VOC) of news inks was evaluated by using different methods and comparison of data with significant differences are reported. EPA Method 24, EPA Method 24A and Bay Area Method 30 are the methods used. Using Method 24, ingredients of inks were tested and experimental and calculated % VOC values of formulated inks were compared. Along with United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) 100% vegetable oil based news inks, commercial news inks consisting of vehicles prepared with petroleum resin base and either mineral oil or vegetable oil solvents were used for comparison. Significant differences between methods, color, and source were discussed.
