Interpretive Summary: The International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants is revised every six years to incorporate decisions of the Nomenclature Section of successive International Botanical Congresses (IBC) on proposals to amend the Code. The proposals in this paper will be considered at the IBC in Shenzhen, China in 2017, and seek to clarify some problems involving the current provisions of the Code. Eight proposals are being submitted to deal with several issues relating to formal nomenclatural acts such as conservation or rejection of names, or binding nomenclatural decisions. Five of these seek to establish the date when these various acts take effect, something that is not currently indicated in the Code. The other three proposals attempt to preserve the standing of some names in current use that were thought to be stabilized by conservation but have not actually been so unless the proposed fixes to the current provisions of the Code are adopted.

The other three proposals attempt to preserve the standing of some names in current use that were thought to be stabilized by conservation but have not actually been so unless the proposed fixes to Art. 6.4, 14.1, and 9.8 of the Code are adopted.
