Technical Abstract: This is a review of Soil and Water Conservation, Challenges and Opportunities, Volume 2, which is a further compilation of papers presented at the 8th International Soil Conservation Conference in New Delhi, India, December 1994. As in Volume I, the papers are grouped in major sections, with the first paper in each section usually giving an overview of the subject and subsequent papers dealing with more detailed aspects of the subject. Subjects covered in Volume 2 are: Section VII: Watershed Management; Section VIII: Human Resource Development and Traditional Technologies of Conservation; Section IX: People's Participation in Conservation Programme; Section X: Resource Management and Tillage; Section XI: Rehabilitation of Degraded Lands; Section XII: Agroforestry and Biodiversity in Relation to Conservation; and Section XIII: Economic Evaluation and Policies. Volume 2 of Soil and Water Conservation, Challenges and Opportunities is well organized with papers appropriately assigned to the sections. As a whole, there is little duplication of information presented. Where it occurs, it is not a problem because the information is presented from different viewpoints, which reinforces rather than detracts from its value. The style of writing used by authors makes the papers easy to understand. Although some typographical errors were noted, that is not a serious problem. Overall, Volume 2 contains a wealth of information regarding soil and water conservation from different viewpoints. Most persons dealing with soil and water conservation can benefit from the information presented. The volume would make an important addition to any soil science library.
