Interpretive Summary: There is a recognized need among food processors for a sweetpotato cultivar that produces a root with a cream-colored flesh suitable for the manufacture of potato chips and french fries. 'White Regal' is a new sweetpotato cultivar developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, and the South Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station. This cultivar has cream-colored flesh and an attractive scarlet skin. When baked, it is bland and starchy with low sweetness. 'White Regal' produces high yields of attractive storage roots. It holds up well under long-term storage. It can be grown with little or no pesticides because it is resistant to many diseases, weeds, soil insects, and other pests. 'White Regal' bakes well as a dry-fleshed type and shows potential for processed products like sweetpotato french fries.
