Technical Abstract: Controlled pollination of plant germplasm in field cages is an important function at the North Central Regional Plant Introduction Station. Four species of bees, (honey bees, bumblebees, mason bees, and alfalfa leafcutting bees), are or have been tested on several crop species. From 700 - 800 cages are used annually for controlled pollination.
